Recently, another group of future teachers arrived from Indiana Wesleyan University. We began this successful partnership with the university nearly ten years ago. Involving students just a semester away from their student teaching experience, has been beneficial for teachers, NES students, and the future teachers. The IWU students are here all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, teaching whole class and small group lessons, and assisting teachers with bulletin boards and other responsibilities. Here are the Junior Practicum Year (JPY) students for this semester:
Elizabeth Gevock (Miss Gruver) Bethany Livengood (Mrs. Priday)
Our JPY students work hard to hone their skills before finding their own future classrooms. It is a pleasure to welcome them to NES, where they can work with, and learn from, the best teachers in the area.
Reminder: The annual sixth grade field trip to Chicago is scheduled for October 17th. This memorable event offers learning opportunities difficult to attain in the classroom. The field trip is always one of the highlights for NES students, and is funded completely by PTO. We appreciate all the wonderful things made possible by PTO, but especially this worthwhile trip.

Important Immunization Information
During the 2009 legislative session, Indiana Code 20-34-4-2 was revised, requiring the Indiana State Department of Health to "adopt rules under IC 4-22-2 to require school age children to receive additional immunizations against the following: Meningitis, Varicella, and Pertussis (whooping cough).
Due to this new legislation, we will see the following changes to the immunization requirements for the 2010-2011 school year:
All 6th-12th grade students will be required to have 2 doses of Varicella vaccine or a history of chicken pox disease.
All 6th-12th grade students will be required to have 1 dose of tetanus-diptheria-acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) given on or after their 10th birthday.
All 6th-12th grade students will be required to have 1 dose of meningococcal vaccine (MCV4).
If your child has already received these immunizations, please send a copy of their updated immunization information to the school so that I can update their health record. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the new immunization requirements.
